Research Project

Deadline: May 15 (Saturday)
Deliverables:
  Report (printed + on CD)
  + 10 Slides (printed + on CD)
  + 5-10 min Presentation

I have randomly assigned each one of you a research topic. Just look next to your student Id at the previous link. The student Ids are sorted in an ascending order. There are 20 different topics.

The questions you have to answer for each research topic can be found here.

There are 7 common questions and 1 question specific to each topic. The expected length of your answer to each question is given in parentheses. 4-5 people will work on the same research topic. However, collaboration is strictly prohibited. Your reports will be input to a correlation software. Your maximum correlation to others will be subtracted from 1 and your score will be multiplied by that number. Let's say your report correlates 20%, 30%, 10%, and 70% to the other 4 people who worked on the same topic. Then, your score will be multiplied by (1 -70%)=0.3. Therefore, even if your score is 100, you will get 30.

There will be no MT2. Instead on the day we would have held MT2, we will gather for presentations. That is May 15, Saturday. You will bring your reports plus slides to the classroon on May 15. All of you will be present during presentations. I will pick only one person from each topic and ask that person to come to the floor and do his/her presentation. The presentations will be in English. A person not doing the presentation in English will lose 10pts out of 100 just for that. If you are not present during the presentation, you will get zero on the project. People who give a presentation will be more generously graded than others if their presentation performance is really good. However, if their performance is really bad, they will get penalized.

Audience (especially people who worked on the same topic) will be expected to ask questions. However, due to limited time, they will write their questions on a piece of paper and pass them to me before the presentation ends.

The reports will be simply .txt files. Any pictures you want to include, include them in your Powerpoint slides. I expect your reports to be between 1.000-2.000 words.

Alternate SW Project

Deliverables: Source Code and Demo

10 of you can instead do a SW project. The SW project is the run-length coding SW project I proposed about 10 days ago. If you want to do the SW project, you have to tell me by Wednesday (May 5) 23:59. Send me an email to fatih at ugurdag.com.
